Realisation of Selected Speech Acts by Foreign Learners of Czech
Genova, Julie ; Chejnová, Pavla (advisor) ; Hirschová, Milada (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to conduct a pragmatic analysis of speech acts as salutation, request, apology, offer and farewell in a written correspondence. The accent is primarily on expressions of politeness in each speech act. The analysis is researched in beginner students of the Czech language in a questionnaire before a lesson, in a written assignment after the lesson and then in the same assignment written by native speakers. The aim is to discover a proper way to teach the expression of the given speech acts as part of Czech for foreigners. The questionnaire filled before the lesson was compared with the assignment written after the lesson. Implementing the comparison, it is defined to what extent had the students improved their pragmatic competence in written correspondence. The same work was assigned to native Czech speakers and the expressions used in the lesson are evaluated based on their results compared with the results of non-native speakers. Through the research we concluded that the difference between the results before and after the lesson are striking. Uninstructed students have frequently expressed unintentionally less politely than it is customary to Czech language, sometimes even impolitely and these errors were predominantly eliminated in the written assignment. Adversus nationes by Arnobius of Sicca and Octavius by Minucius Felix
Říhová, Ladislava ; Lášek, Jan Blahoslav (advisor) ; Šafin, Ján (referee) ; Pokorný, Petr (referee)
African teacher of rhetoric Arnobius of Sicca, who lived at the turn of the 3rd and 4th century, is one of the less known Christian authors. He is the author of Christian apology written in Latin called Adversus nationes. His statement attracted particular interest of philologists and historians of antiquity, because it contains large amounts of mythological material. The aim of this work is to introduce Arnobius not only as a crucial source of pagan theology, but also as an important Christian witness of the complicated religious - political situation of Christianity in the time before the Milan Edict, particularly at the time of Diocletian's persecution of Christians. Given the need to work with original texts includes this thesis also the first Czech translation of Arnobiusʼ apology.

An Analysis of Tertullian's Apologeticum in Contemporary Context
Roček, Daniel ; Vogel, Jiří (advisor) ; Kučera, Zdeněk (referee)
The thesis deals with Tertullian's Apologeticum in contemporary context. The work is divided into four parts. The first part is dedicated to a brief description of author's time and life with emphasis on the difference between Apologeticum and his other works. The second part is about a complete interpretation of the text in which Tertullian defends Christian faith, argues with pagan accusations and suggests the role of Christians in a Roman society. This part also shows author's understanding of Christianity in relationship to paganism with an outcome that both groups are able to live together in peace. The third part is focused on current works of theologians and historians in which various aspects of Tertullian's work like innocence, grace or nature of true religion are depicted and discussed. Last but not least there are mentioned here the topics like question of God, his role for Roman emperors, pagans, but also for Christians who defend their way of life on principle of their belief. In the last part of the thesis I deal with the importance of Apologeticum for today's time. I concentrate mostly on the meaning we can derive from this work and how exactly we can transform his legacy into our daily life. My main findings in the evaluation of Tertullian's work in the context of today's times are...

The case of supposed (alleged) Ferdinand Peroutka's article Hitler is gentleman which caused on 27th January 2015 at the conference Let My People Live! in Prague president Milos Zeman filled up the Czech news media. The aim of this thesis is to explore and analyse how these case was displayed in the media and how have the media approached to this case. This work is trying to assess the extent of media content in these media, the presence and importance of the communication and is also focused on the deeper meaning of the investigated material. Traditional media like television, radio and press, were the main research sample. In addition to Czech Television it was extended for a second public service medium Czech Radio. The main actor of the case is the president of the state and his spokesman who tried to find a allegedly non-existent article. This work will therefore focus on the parsing and the analysis of aspects related to their appearance and action. Ferdinand Peroutka was accused of fascination with Nazism, media did "support" this affair...
Collective Memory and Historical Responsibility in Contemporary Japan
Kovácsová, Petra ; Sýkora, Jan (advisor) ; Labus, David (referee)
Collective memory is a term that describes a series of memories of individuals that are shared by the collective and treated as official and socially acceptable for the group, may that be a small community or the whole nation. Memory is always selective and subjective so it cannot be taken as an equal to history. However, its value as a historical source should not be underestimated. A significant part of the collective memory in contemporary Japan is the Second World War. Even though it has been almost two generations since its end, the memories and the legacy are still vivid. The reason why is the great impact the war had on the Japanese. The country changed immensely and the society also underwent major modifications. One of them was the fact that once a proud nation deriving its origin from gods had to take responsibility for the war atrocities and accept their defeat. As my work will demonstrate, the question of historical responsibility has not been fully answered yet. There are still people who believe that Japan has not done enough to apologise and atone for its crimes and they demand action. I am using the example of the former comfort women, whose case is still open, to illustrate that there are still war-connected problems in Japan that are being overlooked or not dealt with properly....
